The Emmanuel Emmaus Group was started by this church in 1997. Over 40 members have gone on the Emmaus "walk" since that time. The walk is a spiritual renewal program intended to strengthen the local church through the development of Christian disciples and leaders. The group meets once a month on the first Monday with the Chrysalis Group.
Since Chrysalis started in 2002, more than 29 youth (ages 15-18) have gone on the Chrysalis "flight". The flight is a time for nurturing a person's faith for discipleship.
The Committee on Higher Education and Campus Ministries strives to keep in touch with young members in the military and college. We encourage the congregation and membership to correspond with our students. Before graduation in the Spring, the committee hosts a breakfast for the high school and college graduates and their families, and the students are honored during the worship service. We also gift the graduates with a laundry bag.
Our main mission is to let our members in college and the military know that the church is lifting them up in prayer and supporting them through correspondence. We also send them the "Upper Room" publication.
For more information on the Committee on Higher Education, please contact the church office and ask for Sherry Henderson. The Men's Breakfast is an ecumenical gathering of men from Christian churches on Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m. in the Fellowship Building. We have 25-35 Methodists, Baptists, Catholics and Presbyterians involved.
For $2.00 you get scrambled eggs, fried eggs, sausage, bacon, grits, biscuits, sausage gravy, pancakes, juice and coffee. There is a short devotion, and the breakfast lasts for about 30 minutes. Afterwards, those interested play golf together at Meadowbrook Golf Club.
The Men's Breakfast is a wonderfully fulfilling way to spend Wednesday mornings. Please join us. For more information, contact S.G. Gabriel or Ned Hendrick.

There are many opportunities to celebrate music and worship at FUMC from the singing in the choir to participating in a special performance. We welcome your talents and interests in our music program. For more information please contact choir director Kathy Houser.
The Senior Adults Group plans activities for the senior adults in the congregation. A monthly schedule is planned full of fun activities. Some of these events are local, but many are out of town. These visits include trips to:
Shaley Springs (good food!)
Belmont Abbey
Truck Museum
Flat Rock Playhouse
Lake Lure Boat Trips

The group always plans a Christmas dinner with the Dillard Morrow Sunday School Class and Murphy Nelson Circle. The Senior Adults also stay active by doing service projects as needed. In 2006, they served breakfast for the Scandinavian tour group, played hosts for the attendees being interviewed by a district committee, and did a St. Patrick's Day party for children. With lots of help from the Men's Breakfast group, the Senior Adults prepared and served breakfast to raise money for a new church bus.
The Senior Adults usually meet the third Thursday of each month. About 30 members usually attend. They always welcome new ideas and new faces to the group! For more information, contact Bill and Ellie Miller.
